We Provide Training for Bosun Care Ltd

1/3/2021

Picture

We deliver Health and Social Care Apprenticeship training to Bosun Care Ltd staff and we wanted to interview the owner, Yusuf Abubakar, to ask a few questions about his experience with us. We specifically wanted to know, what benefits had he found from enrolling his staff on an Apprenticeship.

Why did you choose us as your training provider?
We were looking for a company that could provide the Care Certificate for CQC compliancy and the fact that Wales & England expand the training to Level 2 Standard Diploma, allows us to have continued training for our staff at a consistently high calibre.

How satisfied are you with the support and guidance given to your employees?
The support that we have experienced with our current Development Coach Emma Stevens is spot on, she is giving 100% effort guiding our staff through this training.

She applies her coaching techniques to their learning styles and takes them on the journey of development, so that they can achieve the whole package, and also to enjoy the experience. I am without doubt, when I say, that with Emma’s encouragement and support our staff will achieve all that they are expected to and more.

Do you feel engaged as an employer and understand where your employees are in their learner journey?
Development can be done in so many different ways, the way that Emma Stevens has approached this is with enthusiasm, dedication, and knowing that each person is different, and she helps them to play to their strengths and helps them to understand the areas that they struggle with.

She completely encompasses the learning journey for our staff as being a journey for herself too, and this is shown in their responses on their personal feedback.

Consistency is the approach with any good training/customer relationship and we have found a good connection that is based around the abilities and the progress of the staff.

What benefits have you found from enrolling your staff on apprenticeships?
Our staff have shown that the work they are putting in has paid off, they can practically use the experience, knowledge, and understanding to provide a better service to the people that they are employed to support.

Would you recommend other employers to enrol their staff with us? If yes, why?
I would say that our experience with a dedicated member of Wales and England staff has a huge effect on how a company feels about investing money, time, and resources to this type of process; with Emma Stevens empowering our staff to work to their best, our investment will payback with a comprehensive and proficient team working better together and they will achieve the standards that they are expected to be working at.

How has your overall experience been with Wales England Care Ltd?
I would say that our experience is showing good results and we will have staff that are working hard with support from their development coach to achieve high standards.

On Random Acts Of Kindness Day, our Shaunie delivered a surprise afternoon tea to our Service Users. As you can see from the photos below, they were all very happy!

We believe, right now, during the lockdown, bringing a smile to our Service Users' faces is so important and we strive to do this every day.

Putting the 'Wales' in 'Wales England Care Ltd'

11/2/2021

Picture
We caught up with one of our incredible Development Coaches to ask about her journey learning the Welsh Language. Here is what Claire had to say:

I started working for Wales England Care Ltd in October 2019 and have always had a passion for speaking and learning the Welsh Language.  Many of the employers and learners I work with speak fluent Welsh, so I felt it was important to improve my ability to speak it.

I met new learners and managers virtually and spoke basic Welsh language to them, such as 'Bore da'. However, to help broaden my understanding of Welsh, I did a language course in my own time and practiced Welsh with my learners who speak it fluently, helping me to pronounce words.

I am extremely proud to say I have recently achieved my certificate from the Welsh Language Course that I took. I now know the words for different colours and numbers and feel very confident in speaking and writing them.

Since I have been working with Wales England Care Ltd, I am involved in meetings with the National Training Federation for Wales, where we talk about supporting how we can incorporate the Welsh Language into the qualifications we deliver. When I'm supporting learners with their Childcare qualifications, I make sure to speak Welsh. I also ask what topics they are teaching the children that week, for example, having a Welsh word of the week.

I believe the Welsh language is extremely important, which is why I'm dedicating my time to learn it. I want to ensure that, in the future, our learners can speak to us in their first language.

National Be Heard Day

9/2/2021

Picture
On National be Heard Day, we wanted you to meet the faces behind Wales England Care Ltd. We asked Kim and Chris a few questions, including where they saw the future of their company and why they started it! See our interviews below.

Meet Kim:

How did you feel when you started your company?
'I started by giving up my senior job role in one of the largest training companies in Wales. I was extremely nervous and excited at the same time as I had previously started my own business at the age of 28, where I owned a share of a care home with two others. I understood what it was like to go alone as such, without having the security of a company and people to fall back on.

Chris supported me with this decision, which made the decision easier.'

Why you did you start Wales England Care ltd?
'I wanted to start the business because I had set up Health and Social Care departments involving training in two other companies (the second company being the one I left to go alone). When I joined them, they had a contract of £500,000 and when I left, they had grown to £3.2 million!

I am extremely passionate about the care industry and love helping others achieve things that they never thought possible. In the early days, we were mainly supporting unemployed people through our provision. I absolutely loved supporting them and they were truly an inspiration to me. Especially, seeing people overcome so many barriers to go on and gain employment or go to college or university. I am so proud of every one of them and I really miss this provision.
However, my background is Apprenticeships, and people within this industry know me for that. This is why they wanted to support me with gaining contracts to be able to offer the apprenticeship provision. As they say, the rest is history. We now cover all of Wales and we are a prime contract holder in our own right within the ESFA (England and UK government).'

How do you feel about what you’ve achieved so far?
'I always struggle with this question because I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the learners and the team of people that are around me. I see it as a joint effort really.'

Where would you like your business to be in the future and what drives you to be bigger and better?
'Firstly, we want to be a global business. Secondly, the drive I have is the satisfaction that I get when I see people develop and achieve, and when I go and visit a service user who truly appreciates the care that they've received. To sit and have a conversation with them fills me with so much pride and pushes me, even more, to be able to offer the best possible service. That is what makes me tick and what drives me to want to grow both our training and domiciliary care services.'

Is there anything else you would like to add?
'I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support from Chris and my family. They have always been there to support me.

When you run a business, it can be exhilarating, exhausting, and sometimes scary. However, I always remember that making a difference in someone else’s life fills you with so much satisfaction there is nothing in the world that I love more than that. That is why I do what I do and will continue to for as long as I can.'

Meet Chris:

How did you feel when you started your company?
'It was Kim who started the Company back in 2009. I was working full time as an Engineer and helped around my shifts and on my days off. The first few years were tough but exhilarating at the same time, watching Kim excel in everything she did yet being concerned about her health as she worked up to twenty hours a day. I was spending more and more time supporting Kim with all of the background work from installing phone lines, creating IT suites and managing admin processes and a year later, I gave up my twenty plus year career in Engineering and joined Kim full time in the business. It has been the biggest rollercoaster EVER! but knowing the difference we make in people’s lives makes it all worthwhile.'

Why you did you start Wales England Care ltd?
'When Kim and I first met, almost twenty years ago now, Kim was working as a Care Assistant and she was deliberating on whether or not to take up a position as a Health & Social Care Assessor. I asked her what she had to lose and a few weeks later she had taken her first step into the training world. Kim loved it and quickly rose through the ranks to Senior Manager having overseen enormous growth in her sector by taking over four competitor companies. Kim had started suggesting to me that she could do it on her own and make a difference in the Health & Social Care sector. We talked about it and the risks involved and decided that Kim should let herself loose into the business world.'

How do you feel about what you’ve achieved so far?
'There are so many amazing stories I could tell you about the people who have come through our doors with no qualifications, no confidence and , in their minds, no future who have left us having achieved things they thought were impossible for them. Some have left having achieved numerous qualifications in their time with us and others have left being able to read and write for the first time in their lives. We have had generations of families come to us and almost everyone who has come through our doors has left with a confidence in themselves that they had never had before and gone on to achieve their goals however big or small.

Having also been a Domiciliary Care provider since 2017, the incredible satisfaction you get knowing that, as a company, we are helping vulnerable people live independently in their own homes in their twilight years is second to none. Kim and I have both been out on runs with the carers, and still do occasionally, and to see the difference we make to people’s lives is amazing.'

Where would you like your business to be in the future and what drives you to be bigger and better?
'In the future, I want us to be able to change people’s lives by supporting them through all aspects of our business. I want us to continue to be leaders in Health & Social Care training, improving our standards year on year and become one of the best providers in the UK. I want the Domiciliary Care to continue to expand throughout Wales and England providing the best possible service to those who rely on us. We have other projects in mind that we want to explore as well, one of those is Kim’s desire to have a nursing home within the next two years and I would like to provide respite care holidays for families. Also, we are not limiting ourselves to the UK and have already had discussions with holiday proprietors in Malta and will be meeting the Health Minister for Malta next week to discuss Health & Social Care on the islands. Dubai could be next on our list as we have our eyes set on becoming a Global Company.'

Is there anything else you would like to add?
'Our business is nothing without the teams of people we have around us, from the Care staff to the Delivery team, the Admin team, the Quality team, IT and Marketing, the SMT and our fellow Directors. Equally so, our business is nothing without our learners and our care citizens. But most of all, our business would be nothing without the drive, enthusiasm, passion and determination of our Managing Director, my wife, Kim Churcher.'

What Does Being a Healthcare Professional Mean to You?

8/2/2021

Picture
We wanted to know what being a Healthcare Professional means to our wonderful staff here at Wales England Care Ltd.

Here are a few of their incredible responses:

Ruthie - Healthcare Professional at Wales England Care Ltd
'I am honoured and proud to have earned a place as a Healthcare Professional, where I'm trusted, loved, and respected by those I support. They refer to me as their friend, dear carer, and part of their family.

I am their energy, their courage, and their strength when they are tired, fearful, or frail. I'm full of pride and praise in all that we/they achieve small or big, and always encourage them to do whatever is needed. I am privileged to have their trust and to be their eyes, ears, arms, and legs when theirs are failing or will not cooperate. I am trusted to be their voice when they are unsure or scared.

I'm honoured to always lend an ear to listen and a shoulder to lean on to cry. I cherish that they want to confide and share their knowledge, life experiences, memories (past and present) and make me part of their life story.

Being a Healthcare Professional isn't just about medicine, soap, and water, it's about life. It's about bringing sunshine into their lives even on the darkest of rainy days. If I can achieve one small piece of normality, joy, understanding, happiness, or support and help make someone's life better, this is what being a Healthcare Professional means to me.'

Jake - Healthcare Professional at Wales England Care Ltd
'Being a Healthcare Professional means so much to me. Especially when I go home at the end of the day knowing that I've provided the best possible care. I always want to make sure that our Service Users can spend their remaining years in comfort and happiness.'

Healthcare Professional at Wales England Care Ltd
'
I like making a difference to someone’s life, even if it’s just doing something small to help out.'

Healthcare Professional at Wales England Care Ltd
'I love being a Healthcare Professional, it is an amazing feeling. There's nothing better than seeing someone smile and knowing that you helped make it happen. You learn something new every day and every day is different. It helps you grow as a person as well as professionally. I absolutely love my job.'

Healthcare Professional at Wales England Care Ltd
'It is so much more than a job. It’s so rewarding knowing that you've helped someone live their last days/weeks/months/years in the comfort of their own home. You've helped them with as much independence as possible and shared many smiles and laughs together.

It is being someone’s friend when they are lonely or just in need of someone to be there. You are there to be a support when they feel weak or sad. It is the hope that when you get to your Service Users ages, you will have someone there for you just like you were there for them.'

Jessica - Healthcare Professional at Wales England Care Ltd
'I love being a Healthcare Professional because it's very rewarding. When I go home after a shift knowing that I've made a difference in someone's life is amazing. When I know that the Service User has been cleaned, fed, and hydrated makes this job worthwhile.

Also, I could be the only person that my Service User sees all day, so it's important to me that we have a chat and some laughs. Plus, seeing the service user smile makes my whole day.

Maintaining the Service Users' dignity and keeping them safe and in their own homes is so important to me. I would never want a service user to feel anything but care and respect from myself.

I love my job, and I couldn't imagine myself doing anything else.'

Ellie - Healthcare Professional at Wales England Care Ltd
'I love being a Healthcare Professional because it's an extremely rewarding job. I love being able to say I have helped and supported people that needed it. I always want people to say that I've helped them feel comfortable and clean.

I always want to make sure that I'm leaving the Service User feeling happy and they've been treated with the utmost respect.

I love this job because the Service Users are very kind. I also think that sometimes we are the only people they see, so they treat us like their family.'

Maggie - Healthcare Professional at Wales England Care Ltd
'Being a Healthcare Professional to me is making sure everyone's needs are met to the best of my ability.  Also, to be someone who can help and assist with all tasks big or small and to enjoy meeting and helping new people.'

Our Joanne's Career Journey

14/12/2020

Picture
We interviewed our Joanne on her extraordinary career journey so far. We wanted to know her past experiences, what she does in her current role and what she loves about it.

What is your career journey so far, Joanne?
Well, I live in Newport and I started my journey into care at 18. My sister was my inspiration as she has mild learning difficulties. I always looked out for her and assisted her in activities like swimming when I was younger. I always knew I wanted to support others that needed it and have done voluntary work three times. I've worked in care homes, mental health hospitals, support working, auxiliary nursing in Royal Gwent, St. Woolos, and UHW. I have worked as a home carer three times, and with all this experience I have thoroughly enjoyed and gained unbelievable knowledge along the way. I am currently training to become a Qualified Health and Social Care Assessor which, I am very proud of. I have done my Level 2, 3 and currently finishing my 5 Apprenticeship.

What is your typical day like in your current role?
I currently work remotely from home, which is all very new for me, as I've always been hands-on with service users and patients. However, I am enjoying a new path in my career, and it is rewarding to assist staff in gaining their Qualifications. I have discussions to support Healthcare Professionals and send them resources to help them achieve their qualifications.

What do you love about your job?
If it is anything to do with helping others, I will always love the job. I am a caring and sensitive person and always put others first. I love that it is rewarding, challenging, and has good outcomes. I love being the support for others.

Why do you love working for Wales England Care Ltd?
I love working for Wales England Care Ltd because they have seen my potential. I feel respected and valued as a person, and if they believe in me, I can believe in myself and that I can do this too. They give a lot of support and never make you feel that what your doing is not right, and there is a lot of guidance.

Why do you think Wales England Care Ltd is different to any other training provider?
Wales England Care Ltd feels like one big team, everyone joins in, and everyone helps each other. That is what makes this company work and why it's thriving.

Can you tell us a fun fact about you?
I laugh really loud!

If you'd like to start your journey into care like Joanne, contact us today on how we can help.
