Moyra Kearney Wales England Care Ltd Director of Care/Dom Care- My Blog. 22.9.2020

In 1993 I joined the Local Authority- Newport City Council and that’s where I gained my Domiciliary Care Experience, skills, and knowledge. I went from working in a care home environment to working with people in their own homes with the end goal being to ensure they could live in their own home for as long as possible. I took training opportunities and worked on a career path into Management and gained qualifications in Health and Social Care at care worker and Management levels.

By 2005 I had joined the Management Team as a Care Coordinator within the Council’s Home Care team and learned how to schedule work for staff on a weekly basis and was part of a wider duty team. In 2007 I became Homecare Practitioner and completed staff inductions into the service and delivered mandatory training and Manual Handling support. In 2009 I became a Manager and managed my own team of Care Workers. I then Managed the care side of two extra care schemes in Newport in joint working collaboration with Linc Cymru who owns the schemes and supported up to 80 tenants with their care needs and supervised 40 care staff and a team of Senior Care workers.

Following a local authority staff restructure I transferred across into Newport City Council Commissioning team and worked as a Contract Monitoring Officer for 3 years. Duties included monitoring local care homes and care providers and ensuring high standards of care.

The opportunity came up to join WEC late 2019 and I applied for a new role as Director of Care and I now manage Wales England Care’s team of Managers and support the RI Kim Churcher to the best of my ability to ensure that as a care service we deliver high-quality standards to everyone who uses our services. This is monitored through stringent audits and quality monitoring. Following my brief time within the commissioning team, it was nice to come back into the heart of Domiciliary Care where I feel most at home.
