Job titles under this standard include Dementia Lead, Reablement Worker, Physiotherapy Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Public Health Associate Worker, Community Care/Support Officer, Social Care Assessor, Care Assessment Officer, Rehabilitation and Reablement Assistant, Telecare Assistant, and Assistive Technology Coordinator/Officer.

WHO IS IT FOR ?

WHAT WILL BE LEARNT

Apprentices will develop skills and knowledge in key areas such as partnership working, assessing care needs, communication, safeguarding, and developing an outcome focused service. The apprenticeship will help to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the worker, including:

  

  • Develop, maintain and use records and reports 

  • Work in partnership 

  • Professional practice in social care for adults 

  • Safeguard children and young people who are present 

  • Advanced communication skills 

  • Personal development 

  • Equality and diversity 

  • Health and safety 

  • Facilitate person-centred assessment to support the wellbeing of individuals 

  • Facilitate support planning to promote positive outcomes for individuals and to support wellbeing 

  • Understand personalisation in care and support services 

  • Understand safeguarding and protection in adult care 

The Lead Practitioner in Adult Care course is designed for professionals who manage and mentor teams of frontline carers, supporting vulnerable adults with various care needs. The course focuses on developing the expertise required to lead in areas such as care assessment, occupational therapy, and assistive technology. Participants will gain advanced knowledge and skills, enabling them to guide teams, assess care quality, and promote a values-based culture. 

Apprenticeship assessment will include the completion of a professional discussion and an observation of working practices.  

 

Both assessments can be completed online or in-person.  These components will be graded with a Pass, Merit, or Distinction. The apprentice must complete the Care Certificate and the Diploma.  They will also work towards Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English, if applicable.

Entry Requirements: 
The apprentice must be at least 16 years old, have a valid DBS check and be employed in the care sector.
 

Duration:

12 months with up to three months for apprenticeship assessment.
 

Cost: 

£4,000, funded via the employer Levy Account, Levy transfers or Department for Education co-funding


Career Progression
An Adult Care Worker apprenticeship can lead you into many roles including senior and leadership roles, specialist care, management positions, or further training into nursing and health professions. It’s a flexible pathway with real opportunities to grow, lead, and make a difference. 

Entry Requirements:

The apprentice must be at least 19 years old, have a valid DBS check and be employed in a role that enables them to demonstrate the skills, knowledge and behaviours to meet the requirements of the qualification 

 

Duration: 

18 months with up to three months for apprenticeship assessment. 
 

Cost:

£7,000, funded via the employer Levy Account, Levy transfers or Department for Education co-funding 
 

Career Progression:

As a Lead Practitioner in Adult Care, you can progress into senior management or strategic leadership roles, develop specialist expertise in areas such as dementia, mental health, or complex care, or move into advanced clinical, nursing, or allied health professions.
